Pre Primary (Nursery/LKG/UKG)

Curriculum

In Pre-Primary section, broadly using the Play Way Method to teach the curriculum, teachers facilitate students to understand basic concepts of language and numbers thus giving them the first lessons in Life Skills (literacy and numeracy). Poetry repetition & recitation, Story Telling and Sentence Making help in speech clarity as well as boosting child’s imagination. Drawing activities help them identify & understand different sizes, shapes and colors. The Play Way Method is further strengthened by hands-on activities conducted in the classroom and out of the classroom. Field Trips, Nature Walks, Celebrations of Festivals, Topic-based Projects, and Science Experiments form a regular and important part of learning-through-doing.

Teaching Aids and worksheets are used extensively to make sure that each child understands what is being taught before the teacher moves on to the next topic.

Very light homework is given specially on week-ends, to encourage every child to get into the habit of self-study and to understand responsibility regarding school work.

We use different Day celebrations and the Annual Day as extensions of class study exercises that combine mental and physical development of the child at the same time.

Assessment
The School-based Comprehensive Evaluation (SCE) is an on-going process in Shravan Vidyadham. It is implemented right from the Pre-Primary Section to assess Students on a daily basis with extensive documentation of every child's physical and mental development as per the prescribed milestones. Teachers observe and document every child's language, social, cognitive, fine and gross motor skills. Three exams in a year are being taken in KG section to get the child in to the habit of examination pattern.

Curriculum

Classes I, II, III, IV, V
Curriculum emphasizes on school readiness programmes and promotes healthy habits among children. Here basic skills in Reading, Writing, Arithmetic and Discovery with emphasis on oral skills are nurtured. Areas of study in these classes are languages, Mathematics, Environmental Studies and Computer literacy. We encourage children to be more participative. The content is drawn from immediate environment and strategies are adopted to enhance their skills of observation, collection, classification, experimentation, estimation, prediction and drawing inferences. Evaluation, at this stage, is both formal and informal. It takes place in a stress-free and learner friendly environment on continuous basis ensuring comprehensiveness and transparency

Classes VI, VII, VIII
In these classes, emphasis is on skills of learning. The approach is of integration of Science and Technology, bringing Mathematics closer to life and thematic teaching of Social Sciences. In languages, emphasis is on listening, speaking, reading, writing and thinking in balanced manner i.e. to develop communication skills with grammatical accuracy and appropriateness of style. Students are imparted enough computer expertise to deal with the technology aided learning environment of today. Music, Art Education, Health and Physical education are treated as co-scholastic areas to develop aesthetics and finer qualities of the student. The evaluation is in the form of continuous internal testing and terminal examinations and the student's achievement is graded accordingly
